eSports

This LibGuide will provide an overview to the resources available through the MGCCC Libraries on the topic of eSports. Physical libraries are located on each campus: JC, JD, and PK. The card catalog, eBooks, databases, and streaming video are located on the library website, http://www.mgccc.edu/library/.

eSports, (sometimes referred to as eGaming, electronic sports, or competitive gaming) consists of organized video events in a competitive arena .

The first official video game competition occurred in North America and was hosted by the ATARI video game company (Space Invaders): now, eSports is a billion dollar international industry.

Amateur , academic and professional leagues, national and international,  have formed across the globe. Top prize at the professional level of million dollars is increasingly becoming commonplace and some casinos are beginning to offer eSports betting to their customers.

Some community colleges and  universities offer eSports scholarships. According to NACE (National Association of Collegiate Esports) over 16 million dollars in scholarship aid was awarded in 2018.
